This year’s theme, “Our Commonwealth Journey,” invites participants to explore the concept of journeys within the Commonwealth. Writers can reflect on personal, historical, or geographical journeys that have shaped individuals, communities, and nations. As the Commonwealth celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025, this theme encourages young writers to explore its evolution and the paths it may follow in the future.

Senior Category (Ages 14-18)

- Educational Equality in the Commonwealth: Imagine a future where education is truly equal for all. What does this world look like?
- Reimagining Folklore: Rewrite a well-known legend from your country or another Commonwealth nation in a fresh, creative way.
- The Impact of Books: Reflect on a book that has profoundly influenced you and describe how it has shaped your journey.
- The Journey of Nature: Narrate the journey of a tree or plant growing in your community, highlighting its experiences and surroundings.

- Discovering New Cultures: Share a time you learned something fascinating about another Commonwealth country.
- Island Adventure: Write about a sea voyage between a large country and a small island nation, describing encounters and discoveries.
- A Portal to a Book: Imagine stepping through a hidden door into your favorite book. What adventures await inside?
- An Animal Commonwealth Meeting: If animals hosted a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which creatures would attend and what would they discuss?
Eligibility and Awards
Who Can Apply?
- Open to young people from all Commonwealth countries and territories.
- Residents of Hong Kong, Ireland, and Zimbabwe can also apply.
- Participants in non-Commonwealth countries may enter if their country has an RCS branch or affiliated organization.
Prizes and Recognition
🏆 Winners and runners-up will receive a fully funded trip to London, where they will participate in cultural and educational activities, culminating in a special awards ceremony.
🏅 Outstanding entries will receive Gold Finalist, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards in recognition of literary excellence.
📜 All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation, which can strengthen scholarship or university applications.
Additionally, some local RCS branches may host their own ceremonies or offer extra prizes, so participants are encouraged to inquire with their local branch after the competition ends.
